We can just move the spawn points by 10-20k meters or more and that part of the map would get any new features.

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. The server will never move to 1.9 and everyone will leave and the entire minecraftcc enterprise will go down.

Just kidding.

Of course they'll update. They'll probably do the same temporary map procedure that they have now, and new maps will come once plugins are incorporated to remove unwanted structures on the necessary worlds. The real question is what worlds will they add to accentuate different aspects of the update? Team Adventure with everything but pvp? Village World with boosted stronghold and NPC town occurrences? There are plenty of possibilities to play with. Don't think that the update is going to hurt the server. It can only make it better.

I think that Notch said that the XP would be used for things like more life and higher jump. I doubt you'll ever fly in survival mode.

Personally I think the level system will be redone. What we have now is just a test of the basic integration. Levels will be more spread apart, achievements might give high amounts of exp. Perhaps there will be some prize that may or may not be associated with the NPCs upon leveling up. Either way, I think it'll be Jeb's doing, not Notch.

but then what would happen to any old buildings by the old spawn?
People could still use private warps to visit them if they'd like (except in PvP). We've done this many times in the past. The current spawn on build4 is the 3rd or 4th spawn location on that map. The benefit of simply moving spawn is people can still teleport to their old base, grab materials and bring them to their new base, or they can continue using the old base as a more secure storage location (since it's now very far away). Moving spawn to a new location that hasn't been discovered on that map yet it means all that land will generate using the new features and biomes.

I would be interested to see the first spawn location. I saw the 3rd one (best one in my opinion).

Yea I don't even remember the first couple spawns, because the first thing I did on that map was teleport to the VIP lostcity, walk 1000 blocks away from that, and spent 3 months building Pharos. :p

We will not be moving spawn points thousands of blocks on maps anymore. It messes way too much stuff up. Now we have legacy there is no need to do it. It just causes so many headaches (lots of plugins aren't good with high coord numbers)
