A Few Suggestions

1.) Public transportation
- I-93 is way to long to get where you want to go.
- Use of minecarts will hopefully help but may be too buggy
- Public warp sites. The warp command is singled to VIP and Management Positions only. Perhaps making warp sites like to temporary housing districts like New Rome for the normal members. If it is possible to allow specific warp areas specific to user group.

2.) New Member Starter Items
- Problems I had starting out were that I had to travel quite a distance to find trees to start finding other ore resources.
- To combat lack of resources at spawn Perhaps mass tree planting.
- Item boxes filled with starter Wood Items. Get things in motion.

3.) Spawn Point Repair
- The Spawn Point is what new members see first and it has been torn to bits by griefers and settlers alike. Perhaps we could get a team of a few members to level it out and make it abit more presentable.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'm always open to hearing them. ;)
- I-95 is a long road... nothing we can do about that.
- Boosted minecarts are buggy in a straight line. They're find for circular tracks where you stay in the same chunks, but you can't load chunks fast enough for it to work in a straight line. Powered carts are the only way to go for I-95 for now.
- Warps are VIP only to avoid griefing. If a public player can warp as soon as he gets on the city, New Rome would look like a griefers haven within hours.

2.
- Tree planting is a good idea. I don't mind if people donate LEGITIMATELY acquired items to new people as well. No donating dup'd items, accidental or otherwise. Trees should be planted outside of the walls of the new spawn city, or new players will not be able to harvest them.

3.
- I've thought about creating a grief cleanup team, but wasn't sure people would be interested. Maybe it's something someone here would be interested in starting up? It'd be great to get some of those ugly griefed structures off the skyline. Building a spawn city will help with aesthetics, but certainly won't solve the areas around it.

Grief clean up team? Dude, I'm not saying "count me in", but sometimes I take a break from projects and stroll around, destroy levitating trees etc. (without chain-reaction fire, of course).

And the main problem is: I don't know what can be destroyed and what might be rebuilt (or hasn't been discovered as destroyed by the builder yet). So I don't touch anything.

The first step would be to get the right information. Putting up signs wouldn't really be it cause guess what: New way to grief. So, what to do?

...

Oh, and about the warp problem: Could there be a second warp command? Could you install the plugin a 2nd time and bend it a little? One warp command (and list) for the peasants, one for the lords? A leaked warp point wouldn't be a problem then.

And it wouldn't be to send griefers straight to paradise. But to get people from the most uninteresting point of the map to the wild. Let them start cities etc.

Otherwise: Planting trees there from time to time might be enough.

A Spawn City would be a great idea actually. Only problem I see with that is we would need to make a whole other interstate to meet with I-93. Perhaps if we constructed Spawn City at the current spawn point it could minimalize the construction required. I think we should make a new topic in the announcements calling for a spawn point demo a construction team, I would be happy to co-lead the team. umm.. and in topic we should announce greifed buildings for demo and maybe PM to notify the owner that their house is sceduled for demo so they can choose to rebuild if they want.

And if member warp points are completely unfeasible then I'm sure a powered minecart system would be better for transportation.

Good point the_actual. How can we know whether a person's structure just hasn't yet been repaired, vs needs to be taken down because the owner hasn't done anything about it.

I think one way we can do it is with signs. Yes, griefers could destroy them, but for the most part, they should work. The sign should say:
CONDEMNED
11/11/2010
FIX OR
REBUILD
If you are on the griefer cleanup team, you would place such signs at any griefed structures. If the structure had a name on it, you should PM the person on the forums to let them know that their structure is scheduled for demolition if they take no action. If you are on the team and one of the signs is three days old with no action, then you could go ahead and safely demolish it.

Members would have to know how to properly use fire to clean up tree leaves without it spreading, and how to make pillars that are destructable from the bottom.

I would need someone to head up the cleanup team, in order to:
- Recruit other trusted members to be a part of the team.
- Keep track of which recruited members are pulling their weight on the team.
- Approve demolitions.

Just kind of thinking this through here, don't take anything of what I said above to be the final word on the subject.

We already have a spawn city in place (type /spawn in-game), so we're a step ahead of you in that regard. VIPs and above can edit the city. It connects to I-95 if you head straight after /spawning.

No on warp points for non-VIPs though. It puts extra load on the server, risks more and faster griefing, makes it harder to track people, and diminishes the value of becoming a VIP. Too many reasons not to do it, and not enough reasons to do it. We are working on a full length I-95 minecart track though, for use with powered minecarts.

We could set up a Grief Group on the forum to keep track of who is on the team and make it easier to sign up for the team. I have one Diamond Pickaxe and using the drop and pickup glitch you specified in the tips and tricks thread that will be all I need. It would be nice to provide diamond Pickaxes and with much moderation possibly TNT for the Repair Team and it would be an incentive to join the team and help out.

- re: I-95. is very long: well, that's the point. If it wasn't epically long, it wouldn't be nearly as impressive.
- re :inecarts. Got my hopes up that they'll work in the long term, though they're buggy for now. Not going to stop me from trying though!
- re: New Rome. I wandered down that way just last night and it's very impressive! I bet if you keep it up, Spike or an admin might create a warp point for it.

- re: trees. It might be a good idea to plant saplings in the deforested areas. Zombie leaves are a problem though. You either have to manually whack down the old leaves, or burn the forest and risk it getting out of control. Some of the deforested areas near the old spawn were due to fires, rather than people cutting wood.
- re: getting started isn't so bad. I do it like so (1) get wood (2) make 1 wooden pickaxe (3) get cobble (4) make stone tools (5) go deep (6) get ores, using stone tools (7) upgrade to iron and diamond as you find it

re: spawn point repair.... not sure, but I think the spawn point has already moved. haven't tried /spawn lately but it was mentioned in-game last night.

I rather thought that griefers could put up such signs themselves, and then we take down the building because of it. But if the actual decision is made on the forum, that can't happen I guess.

I suggest we make a tiny little shop with al tools available in wood version and some people how work in the shop give them to newcomers

That would definitely solve the greediness of most starter item boxes, but we can't have someone on man there all the time.

So I returned to Spawn just to see what I could do and it has been completely revamped so props to whoever fixed that up :D looks sexy

wood versions? Can't spring for iron? Not even stone?

I think Stone would be ideal. Less wood used and can be a permanent tool if the person so wished. I'd be willing to donate all the cobble needed.

i have plenty of cobble to donate for that aswell. and i think the clean up team sounds like a great idea! count me in if it ends up happening
