banned player graveyard

im going to take Soc's idea for a banned player graveyard..and run with it. id update the gravemarkers every so often.

it needs to be on build server, because all the gravemarkers(signs) would get stolen too often.

im just trying to figure out the best way to divide it up into wings.

first idea is a PvP wing and a build Wing. but alot of the times its not said on the ban list what server they played on. so i cant do that idea.

second idea is dividing it onto crime wings. "forgotten wing" for the old bans and when its not explained why someone was banned, "filthy mouth wing" for language violaters, "broken dreams wing" for griefers, "Envious Eyes wing" for thiefs and dupers, and a still unnamed wing for hackers.

last idea was to divide it into each Mod's wing. dont know what id do with the old bans without information attached to them.

so? what do you think? new ideas for wings? have a better name for a wing?

I think a wing for each mod would be really cool. Then we could see like me with 10 bans and SgtSpike with over nine thousand graves

I can help clear land for this project if you wish. Unfortunately I can't see the ban list you can ultimate, so I can't place the signs, but if you tell me what type of marker to place I will do that.

I can make a plugin to do that, although it would have to be in a line

Without stacking signs, that is going to be quite tedious. Unless you get permission to use a mod

I thought about it - plugin is definitely possible. Would be best to have it at a warp point though. I can make it so only mods can edit it too (if there was a need for that). There would be a properties file where you can specify the location of the graveyard etc.

I was thinking of a wall, with the various signs on (like a cremated urn area) and behind/next to the banned sign an example of the grief, if it was lava have lava back behind some glass etc. This way it wouldn't become boring to look at all these names.

As for my own opinion on this matter, I do not wish to be included in this graveyard. To me, it is gloating and negative. It is a service to the community but it is not something to publicly celebrate.

I could make it a pvp feature instead - if you get killed it puts a tombstone with your name on it and how you died (person's name, creeper, zombie, gravity etc)

I see it more as a celebration of stopping griefing and other rulebreaking. Kind of a "Hey look, we mods really ARE doing something to help out the community!"

It is something to be proud of.
However, a law enforcement agency doesn't go on the news and boast about every single ticket or arrest they make do they? No.

Our community knows we do these things. They tell us thank you all the time for handling the issues that take place every day.

I enjoy it only because it helps keep the community safe and sound. Justice must be served upon those who feel a need to do bad things. I don't not enjoy banning people on the other hand because it takes away an opportunity for those people to enjoy a great server and community. They choose to do stupid things because they don't take the opportunity to see the greatness we have over many other servers. It is their choice and therefore must be dealt with.

It isn't something I see as a celebratory action. More of a neccessary evil.

i viewed this project as more of a warning then anything. players would have a shocking visual example of what can happen to them if they dont straighten up and fly right.

another reason why i didnt want to do teh individual mod's wing is because that would in a way be glorifying that mod's accomplishments in way of bans.

Instead of wings, it could also be cool to do it Inferno-style and have the graveyard descend into layers, which each layer representing increasingly dispicable offenses.
