Creative and Pvp

Hey guys

So its been told that there's going to be 2 servers: Creative and Pvp

Creative being how it was on the original map. No mobs I believe?
Pvp being full hardcore pvp with literally no rules. Pvp will have mobs

I honestly didn't think it would be like this to be honest, So I would like to see our communities opinion on this.

So what do you think?

In my opinion/suggestion - I think it should be how our original map was but with mobs and pvp together.

Allowing mobs gives us the chance to make mob looters to gather materials such a string, feathers and gunpowder to allow a much greater experience in the game. Having the chance to do this creates another idea available for our community to make. Having mobs changes Minecraft quite a bit in my opinion.

Pvp/creative in 1 server!

I think it should all should be combined into 1 server. Creating wild untouched areas of the map to be places to pvp and hunt people down. But I however think griefing shouldn't be allowed even though pvp is in the suggestion. This creates another total step into playing Minecraft, combining the 2 without having to switch to 2 different servers. Well you may ask why would you want that? Well I'd like to be creative and have pvp hunts/ free for alls/ clans / events you know it!. pvp is like adding another half to the game its a total different approach to the game. This also increases the value in the name SMP (Survival Multi-player).

Controlled pvp: We could have controlled pvp in large fancy arena's where the community can challenge others to stake there valuables with the chance of winning large incomes to losing large incomes to. Stakes can be decided on what the players both agree on. This ofcourse could be a vip perk only (A warp to arena?).

Organised events could also be applied with forts and anything that you could think of! but imagine all this and being able to still be creative at the same time. The time when you feel like doing something else, making griefing not allowed will be very simple. It will be the same rules now but pvp is only allowed well away from properties. Your not allowed to enter other's propties so make no pvp allowed inside properties - Causing a fix to a potential problem.

Of-course people could make there only little arenas if they wanted to do private stakes (people you trust that are there to stake and not grief).

The possibilities are endless and I think especially arena controlled pvp will be absolute an amazing add-on to our server. There could even be organised days to have wild free for alls every weekend (away from properties of-course).

So guys give me your opinions and feedback on the suggestion.

Thanks

I agree with the 1 server.

Controlled Non-Pvp zones (big cities)
Everything else wild free for all pvp/grief and looting

Minecraft wager matches :p

I really don't like the idea of fragmenting our community, and I feel the second option would work because we have a better userbase than most. As the game and mods mature, we'll have better control over this health aspect. Two things that we need to successfully compromise between both play modes is 1) control over fall damage 2) the ability to hold onto inventory upon death. With those in place, we have the ability to safely build the towering structures we have been without being ruined by a fall, and it also evaporates the motivation to kill to steal items. It's completely possible to have all aspects of the game in one server, but first the dust needs to settle from this update, so we can actually get more than an afternoon's worth of a map!

I wouldnt say griefing and looting chests because it evaporates the creative side of the suggestion. However wild free for all pvp be awesome :D

Sneaky I understand what you mean but this server is SMP so it wouldnt make sense to not have fall damage.

yes I agree but also properties that are out of the city, I don't think everybody likes to build in a city, some may want a bit more room than forced to build in a city just to be safe if you know what I mean?

Im open to the idea of damage and mobs. However i dont like the idea of someone killing me and taking my assortment of diamond tools, and invintory full of Obsidian i just spent the past 2 hours collecting. What to do?

This is the biggest issue facing a two-in-one server, IMO. If players drop their inventory upon death, the moment they forget to stay inside the city without putting their loot in a chest, they're a dead man (or woman) with no inventory left.

IMO, if we had a two-in-one server, all zones should be safety zones except in specified arenas or guild vs guild areas. But really, I'd like to see two servers.

Sgt I would like two eventually but I got another idea

Spawn in the middle of the map with a 50k x 50k safe area on your left and a 50k x 50k pvp area on your right.

What people think? We get best of both worlds and we can all still play together.

Thought about that too, seems like it would work.

What about the current map? Everyone wants to keep it, but how would that work in a world that was suddenly half PvP and half not? And this is only assuming that safezones will be possible with upcoming plugins. What do we do in the meantime? Sorry, not trying to shoot down your idea kiwi, but just trying to figure out how to make it work if that is what we want to do.

Take off damage till its fixed and plugins have been made and updated or run 2 ser(ers for now old one with no damage and a test one.

I was thinking that as long term solution not as 5 minute fix

The plugins required are being worked on. just look on hey0.

This.

In the last couple days, playing Minecraft online has been a neverending cycle of logging out and logging back in to fight the !@$# ghost bug. Block lag is better, but now it's replaced with item lag. Sometimes you have to stand over an item for 30 seconds or more before it will finally pick up into your inventory. The lag appears to affect players and mobs, too. I've had other players walk up to where I had been standing a minute earlier and try to talk to me as if I was still there. I get lag-killed by monsters all the time, too.

Some day, mobs and damage will work great. As of right now, however, it's terrible.

1st: 2 servers sounds good, but in reality I doubt its feasible, at least until we average more then 10 users at any time.
2nd: 50k to the right and left could be implementable after the server update, however by that time we might have a larger user base and 2 servers might well be feasible.
3rd: I propose something in the reverse of the cities are safe, I think we should have 1 specified fairly large area that is somewhat close to spawn (so non vips can play)
It'd be sort of like a mini survival map that is reset with cuboid between games, wherein teams of 4 or w/e start from scratch (maybe a few tools in a chest or something) and try to build a fort that the other team can't effectively assail. first team to win would be whoever can steal the "golden apple"(flag) or maybe some style of tdm. Rules don't really matter, just that pvp is controlled,
4th:I think ffa wouldnt really be effective, we dont have a enough players and the land area is WAY too big, plus I doubt it would be very much fun, as far as I can tell most people wouldn't be pvping at all. It might be hard to get a 4v4 once a day... I think PvP will be fun, I don't think it is the main draw for smp though, I know i joined so that I could show off what I was building. Who wants to build something no one else can see?

I'd really like two different servers. I like both aspects of minecraft, but not when it's combined. I like being able to mine in peace, without fearing mobs or other players, but I'd also like a server where everything goes, and it's you versus everyone (except allies).
So, either give people the ability to set up safe zones, like mines and homes, and everywhere else is free for all, or a few arenas for PvP and PvE, or just two servers.

I deffinatly think we should go with one server. Having anything goes in one sever is too disorderly. I've been disrespected unrelentlessly for killing opponents without ryme or reason. Controled PVP would make for a far calmer and more govermental server. Too many issues come from a lawless server. Unreasonable Greifing. There has been a lot of duping going on in the pvp server. and Language in the PVP server has been... Disgusting. I agree with OP that we should make controled moderated areanas and ban unreffereed pvp

i would like to have the servers integrated also but with something like a seperate pvp spawn like a command /pvpspawn in an area neer a set of arenas but i would like damage too only work in the arena areas and when u die u keep ur inventory, i also like the idea with the teams of 4 against each other and the stakes idea

I disagree with keeping items. What joy is there in PVP without some form of loot. Slightly pointless in my opinion.

Think I'll drop my two cents in here since I've been playing the PVP server all day.

For me, PVP is what SMP is all about. In particular the mobs. I have very much enjoyed my time on the PVP server simply because there are no hard and fast rules. You go out, survive, pillage and loot!

In my ideal world I envision the PVP server with some minor protection, mobs, PVP and community enforced rules.

- Cities spring up with huge walls to keep out the mobs
- Houses created within a city are protected, plots of land purchased from the admins (city council :) )
- Houses outside the cities are not protected and its up to players to defend them until perhaps they meet a certain size (like a village) at which point they could apply for protection.
- If rules are broken you get your *** put in jail, pay an in game fine or get banned.
- Players play in the server in a style that suits them, Kill another player within the city walls and the council put up a WANTED poster (if your a reg) at the city hall and you are banned from the city, destined to be a rogue player until you earn a pardon.
- Outside the cities in the wild, the pvp freedom is retained. Kill players, burn down their houses. Loot their chests. Controlled Anarchy for the win :)

I know the plugins don't support all these types of actions yet but it's just a matter of time as the game and plugins evolve. In the meantime, I'm loving the PVP server! =)

In terms of plugin support,

Pvp would be disabled in the safe cities/guilds/zones/area/towns/plots/whateva they are called...

But yeah the wanted posters sound like a good idea if a member of the city kills a fellow citizen (outside the safe area(if this is possible))

If you want to see what plugins are available look here: forum.hey0.net

I hope we can get a final decision soon
