Economy Mod

Would you like an economy mod?

So I'm not asking for this to be added, I'm just asking what people think about this.

The way this would work is that a new world would be made.
You can earn money by selling items with the /sell command.
When you get enough, you can withdraw your balance for real money/btc
The amount each block is worth can be changed depending on certain factors.
Since there is already a way to earn money, you wouldn't get paid for mining or building.

What do you guys think?
Might it work or not and do you want it?

This has already been discussed, I believe. And this idea isn't really good.

What if I x-ray for 1000 diamonds, the mods don't catch me in time, and I manage to withdraw .1 BTC? It isn't that good for the server.

Then again, you could say "oh, we can delay withdrawals"

True, but if I'm really lucky with my mining, the server is screwed. Also, if the server bought all of the diamonds that are currently out there on the main server, it wouldn't be sustainable. Too many of them...it's a bad idea. Sorry, just my two cents :S

If we were to implement an economy plugin, it would be players selling to other players - the server wouldn't do anything but process the buys/sells between the players by transferring the money and inventory.

Picture it like a stock market - a player might offer to buy 10 stacks of diamonds at 5 mBTC/stack, while another player might offer to sell 20 stacks of diamonds at 7 mBTC/stack. A third player might offer to sell 40 stacks of diamonds at 8 mBTC/stack. Someone looking to buy 30 stacks of diamonds would have to pay (20 * 7 + 10 * 8) mBTC to acquire them.

People already do this, though, and it works fine. Consider Dopaminergic's shop (although I haven't seen him in a while. Might just be my semi-inactivity. Y'know, packing for holidays, playing other games, etc) where he sells diamonds.

Well, the idea would be to use BTC as an in-game currency and automate the transactions. This way, Dopaminergic (and anyone else) could buy and sell his goods without actually being present, and without any chance of anyone ripping him off by not upholding their end of the deal.

This will actually help stop spam in chat with people shouting that they are selling/buying. People could go to a shop without spamming chat.

I think this could be a really good addition to the server. However I've been on a few servers with economy plugins and it really eliminates vanilla game play. For example, you are mining and your diamond pick breaks. No worries, you can buy another through the economy plugin and you instantly have a fresh diamond pick in your inventory.

If something like this were added to the server, I would like to see it only usable at the spawn of a world, public warps, or specific trade location.

Yeah, my idea for /sell isn't that good. I think it should be that in the new world at spawn you can buy a property and make a shop. You could get starting money but going to the spawn shop. This wouldn't be real btc.

But you have to remember, not everyone on the server uses Bitcoin (further dug in by the fact it is G-Rated). No-one wants to be alienated because they don't know what a "cryptocurrency" is (and to be honest, most "young" people won't and don't).

That, else it'll basically be spawning items if it is implemented.

It doesn't have to be btc, it can be different money types. And you don't have to play for money only, you can ignore the economy aspect and play on a different world.

Check my last post.

"play on a different world"

So these options you're saying are:

a) Implement it on a major world, such as build or survival, which means that people who dislike the plugin have to go to some minor world (nonecobuild/survival?) - splitting the community and making some people quit?
b) Implement in on a minor world - splitting the community?

Both aren't very viable. I don't think everyone here fancies the idea of an economy plugin.

Oh no. The idea was to make a new world. It says in my original post.

Very good point, and I agree.

No one has to even be aware that they are using Bitcoin. They start out with 0 currency when they join, and can gain currency by trading with people who have deposited or earned Bitcoins. If they never want to withdraw their in-game currency, they don't have to do so.

I presume you mean putting it on an existing world?
It would exist for all worlds, unless we have a specific reason to disable it on any one of them. The inventories would be separated between worlds just as it is now, but the money would be usable in any world.

I think it would be cool to have an in game wallet that increases as you mine/sell, and we can choose to cashout for BTC. Instead of every week we would be able to build up a decent amount. Maybe even being able to add to our ingame funds by depositing BTC. BitVegas is an example of what I mean, but I don't know anything about plug-ins so thats all I got to go off.

That would be neat indeed!

Alright going off what collins said, I do hope we would still have the payout per week as well if this is added?

Essentially. I think ideally, I would pay directly to players' currency in-game, and then they could withdraw whenever they like, but either way, players would still get a small payment per block modified.
