Food for thought - transportation to your workplace

It takes 105 calories for the average male to run 1 mile. If you had a 20 mile commute, and you ran to work every day, it would take 2100 calories. If all you ate was pasta, which is a relatively cheap food, it would cost $2.21/day to run to work. If you eat lots of healthy fruits and veggies, which are expensive on a per-calorie basis, it would cost you $18.38/day to run to work.

Several very fuel-efficient vehicles get 35 MPG on regular-grade fuel. At $3.76/gallon, it would cost $2.15/day to drive to work.

Just some food for thought...

*Doesn't include the cost of vehicle insurance, vehicle maintenance, or vehicle depreciation. Also doesn't include running supplies, stored up calories in fat (which are, in fact, free to use), or visits to the doctor for joint pain, twisted ankles, or pulled muscles.

You forgot to add in the water consumption which can run up to $1 per liter (cheap side if you live somewhere where tap water isnt safe [and you need to buy bottled water.] [It] can be around $4 if your rich and picky about the brand), for a 20mile hike/run Ive gone though a 3 liter water source easily.

$1/liter for tapwater? That's insane... I think it's like $1.50 for a kilogallon where I live... which would be $0.0015/gallon, hence the reason I didn't add it in to the calculation.

no, for bottled, I was saying where you cant drink tap water and need to buy bottled. Ive seemed to live in a lot of areas where you really shouldn't drink tap water.. Mostly due to lead, most recently due to pesticides/ possible agent orange contamination...

Ah, gotcha. Yeah you can drink just about anything around here.

*Does not account for local variables.

wow, I think I found something other than used cars that is cheaper in the UK than the US. It's about $0.30/litre for decent bottled water here. And about $0.70/L for decent branded water. This is assuming you buy 1.5/2L bottles from a Supermarket.
