Global Griefer List?

It's come to my attention that a lot of the griefers a server gets will be people who were recently kicked out of a different server. Perhaps a website dedicated to listing people banned from servers would be a useful prospect.

It could give the name of the banned player, what server they were banned from and what they did to be banned. When specifying what the person did, one has to choose from a a list of options. Thus, this would allow server admins to go to the list and search for people who committed certain offenses. This could mainly help cut down on griefing due to the fact that there would be more real consequences of a griefers actions. For instance, say they grief on one server and are banned. An entry is then made about this person on the website. Now that their actions are public, they may be banned from a large number of servers they have never been on. This then defeats the motivation of: "theres other servers. idc, ban me n00bz."

Without such excuses, griefers are forced to behave and come to terms with their actions. And seeing as there arent many GOOD public servers, being banned from one such as ours would then possibly get them banned from other good ones, leading to them essentially losing what makes them grief in the first place.

Thoughts anyone?

I was thinking of this myself. There would be a lot of work though, because other servers would have to be negotiated with. In addition, whoever runs this plugin, website, what have you, would spend most of his time maintaining it. I would offer my sawpart to whoever decides to set this up.

There is actually a plugin (and website to go along with it) that does this already called MCBans. The reason I haven't installed it is because I don't always know the rules of other servers, or why a player might have been banned from it. On several servers that I and other players have visited, an admin will ban you just for looking at them the wrong way or asking the wrong question. I don't want to have the banlist of our server degraded by the low quality of bans from other servers.

Just my thoughts on the matter...

Yes, I could understand that. I was however thinking of something very similar, except it's still up to the admins of the individual servers to ban people. It'd be less a global ban list, and more a global watchlist/directory of banned people.

That would be nice. Unfortunately, MCBans does not allow directly searching their database on the website, but you can scroll through all 120+ pages if you like. :)

Good point keytastic, and welcome to the forums.

I have to ask, why make this your first post here?

My server was griefed and when I tried searching for a global ban list, google brought me here. I felt the need to help, so I pointed out that you can search the list.

By the way, searching mcbans.com helped me figure out who was griefing my server.
