If you are lazy like me you can use Zan's mod to install the improved chat (it has a command line installer which makes things a tad easier -

You also have the option of installing a handy minimap that doesn't spoil the game (waypoint ability is very handy).
Weird how we both found this at the same time.

Looks cool, I especially like the "chat entry no longer runs off-screen" as that gets pretty annoying.... :S

forgot to mention but it's a client side plugin/mod

and thanks cj i didnt see that one, seems pretty good and fair
was stopping myself from installing the other more complex mini-map since it was unfair.

Even if you do not want the map, it gives you the option to just install the chat mod.
