Mini Venice/Venice

A skiing/snowboarding mountain that we can fly down using gliders

Cakle

Pastry Enthusiast
Thanks for putting this up~

since this has been posted, more suggestions have been made. Should we add those or should we keep it to these so we don't have to choose from so many? I'm looking forward to what we decide on.

Since there's a large number of ideas I think we can't tell the one with most votes will feet to everyone. I suggest a second round with let's say the 5 bigest, and I would go farther by saying if 2 projects get more than 40 % of the majority we can totally set 2 maps for 2 large projects. Better have 2 with half of the community on each than 1 with half of the community on it and the other watching.

I was definitely thinking a second round with single vote option would be a good idea. Not sure about the two large projects thing though... we have limited people, we should encourage everyone to work on the same project even if it wasn't their preferred build!

Agreed, one large project is going to be plenty for now.
Maybe if/when there are more players on we can add a second one.

I hadn't seen bioshocks city in the clouds but when I looked it up, it was really pretty so it has my vote

I have to be honest, while it would be nice, people won't work on something if they don't care about it, they will just go on to play skyblock or whatever survival/build personal project they have going on. I kinda agree that if we have a community halved over 2 ideas, asking one half to settle on something they don't care about won't be effective and they just won't do it. Asking people to settle on something won't have the effect I think you are looking for, imo :/ Builds are not like coffee:p if Tim Hortons runs out of dark roast, I am fine with choosing regular, but I wouldn't be up to building a swamp if that was the highest vote, so I wouldn't spend my spare time putting effort into the server swamp, I would just keep working on my personal project in build. Coffee doesn't take long to drink. but builds take and ask a lot of peoples time
One day, we won't have a limited number of people if we work really hard to make the server as successful as it can be

I've heard several people talk about finding something that the whole server can work on. That's easy enough when the whole server is just a few people, but let's be realistic. Choose whichever project you like, you aren't going to get something that EVERYONE wants to work on. Some people just want to do their own thing. Finding something that enough people want to work on is good enough, in my opinion. Especially if we have a series of the smaller projects going on along side it.

The issue to me though is that we are looking for something that hasn't been done before (good luck) AND something that most people would have an interest in. I feel like this is a dangerous combination, The thought of settling with something mediocre (or fairly bland) in the name of being different and then getting most people to even want to contribute to said project puts us in the same spot that we were in with the University of Oregon. I'm really against turning down large project plans just because other servers already have done them. They chose those things for the sake of making more people than not, happy and interested. We should too. Being interesting and fun should be more important than finding whats unique and that's my biggest concern here over all. Giving the people something they WANT to spend their spare time on, rather than something they can tell people we have and others don't. Besides, if we started up a large project today on recreating Vancouver, and Server Cats (I made this up) also decides to build Vanouver, there goes our uniqueness right out the window despite having started building it first... you get what I mean?

There were a few suggestions made prior to the list being done that didn't make it onto the list... I know that a couple that I personally suggested did not make it... Hogwarts is great but there are other HP options, for example. And there is a wealth of ideas from LotR that are nowhere to be seen. Bag End is great but there is so much more...

I agree, isn't Bag End a house in a hill? I don't really see that being very big or exciting for very long... Maybe as a small build, but I raise an eyebrow at the thought of considering it THE big server build

There is enough detail that could be added that it could be a medium to large build, but that isn't what I meant. LotR is FULL of things that could make challenging builds. Hobbiton, Rivendell, Loth Lorien, Isengard, Helms Deep, etc... The list is huge. We don't see much of Bag End in LotR and what we do see wouldn't make a very fun build, the fun parts being seen mostly in The Hobbit.

I know nothing about LotR, but I know what you mean, it's like how HP has other things like Diagon Alley which has a lot of really cool details (like gringotts)

Boy, this whole process has gone off the rails.
This would be my suggestion: add whatever people think is missing to the list, and vote again from scratch.
Make it VERY clear this is not what we think would be neat, but what that person thinks that they would actually work on.
And instead of 1 vote or infinite votes, maybe limit each person to a top 3.

I would also group things, like Disney parks, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, etc. as one item each.
If that is chosen, we can plan out how to handle it.
On the list above I think that only affects disneyworld / disneyland, but others mentioned would fall into this.

The idea for this build is to get rid of the outside, and make it as huge as possible. It would be thousands of blocks wide.

There are almost 20 rooms where you can set teams of people for tens and tens of hours of work.

Imagine this type of architecture on the full high of the map :

And then add the objects.

It's a large build obviously :p

And it has never be done before on this scale.

EDIT : we can make 8bits of the Shire we would see from the windows :)

I think I'll take the top few results of this poll, maybe add a couple more that have been talked about since the start of this poll, and make a final one-option-only poll to decide the winner.

EDIT: Scratch that, I still think multiple choice is the best poll option for this. We want to know which one would have the most people working on it, but some people are willing to work on several of them.
