A few people have been wondering what is going to happen on our server when the 1.8 adventure comes out some point during September/October. It is very important to us that we always do the right thing for the community when Notch releases updates - some people want the new features, whilst other people still want to keep their stuff.

After weeks of debating what to do between the moderators and admins, we have finally come to a decision.
  • Brand new build map
  • Brand new survival map
  • The old maps will go to legacy status inside legacy house
  • VIPs will be able to copy their inventory using a command just like when we changed PVP map

We hope you are looking forward to 1.8 as much as we are!
Feel free to discuss the news in this thread if you would like.

I have a huge vault on the build server that I've amassed over the last year. I'm wondering if there will be any way to transfer that to the new build server. It took many hours to gather those supplies legitimately so I could build massive things like Pharos, it would be a shame to lose those supplies due to a map change.

I do not believe we will be making such provisions, but the old build map will still be buildable, so you can still work on pharos, etc with the supplies you have stored up.

Good idea about the discussion thread, I was going to start one..but got too lazy. I too, and I'm assuming several other VIP's are in the same boat. I spent alot of time cooking smoothstone glass and bricks getting ready for my next project. When we had first come up with the idea of legacy maps, I had really hoped that the inventory was going to be shared between those and build since those inventories had been wiped anyways. I would have liked the shared inventories for the fact that we could continue to use the VIP vaults as well saving us the time of building them, and setting people up in them all over again. Its going to be a pain to search out and amass mossy cobble, bricks and even redstone which I go through so quickly.

That being said, While being able to take alot of items with me would be nice, starting again with limited resources always helps to breathe new life into the game, giving a reason to mine/explore all over again. I wont really mind starting over.

*edit** sgt ninja'd me.. About building in legacy maps, Myself.. Im not a fan of the idea, I like them as a place to go back to and look around, But i would much rather build in the new, current map, working towards making that epic for all our new players rather than living in the past.

I agree with Marine. Could we allow shared inventory between the current maps that are already sharing (build, survival, etc) and the old non-pvp maps?

With my limited knowledge of Java, I THINK this could be done.

I plan on only keeping my diamond blocks and very few things. I'm excited for a new map. Its about time everyone stopped being fat and started playing again. To me its exciting starting out poor with only wood picks and slowly progressing. Its keeps the game fun and new for me. I'm really close to finishing my builder app so a countdown on the /motd would be nice.

I agree, it would be nice to start out fresh. But, I do not believe it is wise to make such a situation compulsory. We should link the new Build and Survival worlds with their predecessors, and those who want to start fresh can do it, while those who don't want to can just bring all of their stuff over.

Linking the worlds is easy. My only concern was how VIPs would feel - I can only link it for everyone, so VIPs would basically lose the perk of being the only people to keep inventories across map resets.

I sugest that the mods offer VIPs and above vaults linking to build4, survival, and all the worlds coming after that. Sort of like a space between each world were you can store your items that you don't have space for in each transfer. That way we can keep the suplies for our epic structures without having to build on a world that is never visited and out of date.

Never going to work, sorry.

New pvp map as well plz?
This was discussed and was decided it won't happen. PVP is still relatively new and still has plenty of space. Changing 3 maps at a time is just too much work.

I don't quite see the point when I can just link the worlds together anyway. It's not as if people use the vaults we already spent time making for them.
