I've had that happen before. That fixes if you close minecraft completely and restart it.

I've had very few problems since I changed to the 64bit version of Java. If this works for anyone else, let me know.

Blah, google isn't finding anyone with the same artifacts issues as you. All I can really think of is to download and reinstall the drivers for your specific GPU from here

Uhh... it's possible your video card might be overheating. Download and run GPU-Z, then watch it while you are playing. See what temperatures it gets up to.
