Actually they don't have insane amounts of money compared to monarchs in other countries. The entire Royal Family gets £40 million a year for everything they do. Yes thats a lot, but they generate way more than that for the British Economy. They make around £200 million pounds a year, take off that £40 and the rest goes into the country.

Especially when all the money being spent on it could be used for something important. Like crocheting the worlds largest quilt. Or...I dunno....sending more relief to Japan? Or maybe some radiation clean up?

Good to see everyone has their priorities.

I spoke of ignorance. I had no idea. Still too much money though. That money should go directly to this server.

The money for the wedding comes out of the royal families own money. It doesn't cost the country anything.

then PD, I hope you never get married because all weddings, if done the traditional way, cost a good bit of money.
You have the food (usually catered), the photographer(professional), the venue you choose to have wedding at average church costs oh 20,000 (this usually covers the custodians, a sound tech, and everyone that helps.)

So yes weddings cost money. But! I wouldn't call them a waste of money, think about it. You get to have all your friends there in one room witnessing you pledging your life (heart and soul) to the one you want to be with forever (hopefully, if not then you should have gone to pre-marital counseling)

I'll stop now I'm rambling.

Lol, we spent about $3,000 on our wedding. Including a professional photographer, church rental, cake, food, etc. We did a lot of the work ourselves to save money.

It's certainly not a waste of money to spend on your wedding, but we just didn't HAVE very much to spend, so we had to find ways to do it cheaply! We were both unemployed at the time too, which didn't help. :p

Oh nonononono, I wasn't saying weddings were a waste of money. I was saying that the Royal Wedding was a huge waste of money. :sneaky:

But in your opinon PD, what seperates a Royal Wedding from a normal wedding? (apart from people from the Aristocracy getting married)

The exorbirant, over the top amounts of money spent on it. Kate Middleton doesn't exactly strike me as vain, and I'm surprised to see she let William spend so much on the Wedding.

Just a thought, US Presidential elections cost around $1 billion USD. Now I know that is maybe a more important occasion nationally than this, but that is alot of money when you consider election budgets for other countries.

As a country the British tend to like our Monarchy, they generally give much more than they take (unlike they did in the past), the amount of work they do for charities is significant.

Catherine and William said themselves that they would have preferred a quiet wedding, but being a future heir to the throne means that just isn't possible.

As it was, for a Royal wedding, it was quite understated. Furthermore, being a country in recession, the extra buying of flags and travel, and tourism, and purchasing of the BBC feed, should be a handy boost to our economy. Plus it gives us a very rare chance to be patriotic without being accused of being a racist.

Coffee, your logic never ceases to amaze me. I'm not being sarcastic honestly. I never thought about it like that before.

The US owes money?!?!? I thought everyone owed the US money!!!! Is the world economy just a cycle of debt? Countries borrow from US ---> US borrows from China -----> China borrows from countries. :o.0:
