EDIT: Woo, Notch released 0.2.7 and it's all working again!

I just started up the servers on the old .jar, solely to keep my place on the minecraft server's list. No one can join (it'll give you outdated client messages), unless you found an old client and are somehow able to keep it from updating.

Servers are down because of a botched Notch update. Servers crash every 2-4 minutes after starting, so it's pretty pointless to try to play. Running 0.2.6_02, so let me know if a new version comes out and I don't see it!

Sigh... :( i wish Notch would test his updates first. Yes I know we are his testers and blah, blah, blah. I'm just sick of this server crashing stuff. :x

Notch is an *******. Obviously he didn't test this update AT ALL. All Creepers? Then ALWAYS crash after few minutes? Near 700,000 people have to swallow the update without choice. Why doesn't he give us the option to not update the client (which he even promised a few days ago)? Oh, I already said why.

What a failer. The developer is indeed alpha. Everyone else with 700,000 paying enthusiastic and already playing followers would be careful with updates, use a test group etc. (and meanwhile, the majority could play the "old" version and wait for a stable update incl. stable hey0 mod etc.) - but not the great Notch. How can a person be so ignorant? This is NOT a "one man" problem. As I already said in another post and also in an email to him: It's his attitude.

Conveniently, it's bed-time for me now. Maybe it's already sorted when I wake up tomorrow. Night, all.

Like actual said, Notch really is an ***. Excuse the language, but seriously, he doesn't care about his product. He's already made so much money on Minecraft that he doesn't need to continue improvement on his product.

LTRAIN, I will not excuse the language. Insult him all you want, but we have to keep the boards and servers clean of swear words. (Fixed your posts)

Update on the server crash: Evidently, it happens when a player clicks "cancel" while at the "Logging in..." screen.

Got to disagree with some folk here having spent a lot of time in development myself. I do agree that he 'could' get a team of testers and follow more formal development methodologies but he's young, he's doing it himself and this is the first time he's had to project manage anything himself. It was the same with the closed alpha of counter-strike in 98 which tbh was the last time I remember looking forward to regular development updates in any computer game :D

Notch stumbled onto a winner with MC and I don't doubt his conviction to continue to make the game and enjoy making it. We can chuck 'coulds' and 'shoulds' at Notch till we're blue in the face but the simple fact is it's an alpha and he's inexperienced. I'll wait for a release candidate before I start whining ;)

Not forcing updates however is definetely needed and I'm certain it will come, new members of his team will also be able to contribute their own experience to the project development which will no doubt help.

Exciting days :D

"Release early, release often" and closed source with centralized version enforcement don't play well together.

Fun though, they just need to lose the version enforcement and we're laughing.

on a different note, remember how everyone was complaining thats there wasn;t regualer updates, double edge sword imo
