Skylands

I recently read about a project called Skylands, which is a massive modding/mapping effort to create a Minecraft world which has no ground, and is instead entirely comprised of floating islands. Bridges connect the islands, and each is different.

Perhaps when a version of this map/mod is out, we could create a new game world with it as the map?

I can kinda see how you would think so. However, there is no bedrock or even ground beneath the islands. The islands are the only ground on the map. So it makes it a little easier to die, compared to spheres.

It sounds very similar to the sky dimension that Notch was posting photos of pre-1.6.

Reading through the desciption, it seems that the skylands map is outdated/not kept up to the current state of minecraft. I don't know what exactly this means, but I seem to remember stumbling across this a couple months ago and it was out of date then. This also reminds me of the aether mod:

The former temp map was merely changing the rules of land generation though, the Skylands is entirely pre-built. I downloaded it earlier, seems very legit from what little I played.

XD I just realized the speres map is basically the same. Except, yes, Skylands isn't randomly generated.
